What directory listings and distances do—and do not—tell you.

Community-supplied information
Directory listings combine organizations from your RescueGroups animal results with nearby OpenStreetMap data and may be incomplete or out of date. A listed organization is not necessarily accepting animals, offering adoptions, or open to visitors. Municipal pounds and animal-control services may operate differently from rescue groups.
Check before visiting
Confirm the address, opening hours, appointment requirements, services, fees, and animal availability directly with the organization. A website link is a link supplied with the record, not a guarantee that the website or organization has been verified.
Distance and ordering
Displayed distances are straight-line estimates from the selected coordinates or the location returned for your ZIP code or city. They are not driving distances or travel times. Organizations from the animal results you have browsed appear first, followed by map listings. Known distances sort closest to farthest within each group. Animal placement distances are not shown as shelter distances.
Outages and missing results
During an outage, previously fetched results for the same search may be shown with their age. No results means our sources returned no organizations for the results loaded so far; it does not prove that no organizations exist nearby. External map searches may find more organizations and may include results outside your selected radius.
Example animals
Animal cards marked Example are sample content and must not be treated as current adoption listings. Contact the shelter or rescue through its authoritative listing to check a real animal’s status.
Urgent situations
This directory is not monitored for emergencies or animal-intake requests. Contact your local animal-control service or an appropriate emergency service directly when urgent help is needed.
